La
Feria Chapter - The First 10 Years
1993
- 2003
La
Feria Chapter of Gypsy International was chartered on April 23rd
1993. We started with over 30 members and in a short period of time we grew to
50 or more.
La Feria
has always been an active & working club so by July 4th 1993 we had our first major three- day fundraiser FIESTA
1993.
This March 2003
we had our 11th successful Fiesta. We have also done numerous other
fundraisers for our brothers & sisters and local families in need in the Valley and will continue to do so for many years.
The past ten years
we have also adopted 12 or more families and their 35 – 40 children. Delivering
food, clothing, furniture & toys at Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter or as needed through out the year.
We have raised
thousands of dollars for our two main charities the Rio Grande Valley Shrine Club & Valley Baptist Medical Center’s
Breast Cancer Awareness & Prevention clinic.
Sadly, we have
lost several members to death & even greater numbers due to job relocation.
On a brighter
note La Feria chapter has been very good for the over all growth of Gypsy M/C having 4 or 5 chapters originating from ours: San Benito [No longer], Lower Valley [Now Harlingen], Weslaco and Raymondville.
Also several of
our past members were Charter members of League City and another one is now president of Alamo City (2003).
This concludes
a brief history of the La Feria Chapter of Gypsy M/C.
